Residents of a local subdivision have been ordered to remain in their homes and submit to bag searches after a plastic container lid went missing following a neighborhood potluck.
Residents of Elm Tree Drive were instructed to shelter in place Tuesday evening after local woman Brenda Corvis reported a medium-sized, green-gasket Snapware lid missing from her kitchen island. Witnesses confirmed that Corvis, 54, sealed off the driveway with a garden hose shortly after the conclusion of a neighborhood chili supper, announcing that nobody was leaving the premises until the rectangular piece of plastic was safely returned to its matching base.
At press time, four families were being detained in the Corvis living room, where they were systematically interviewed regarding their proximity to the sink between 7:00 and 8:30 p.m. Corvis has reportedly cross-referenced the guest list against an inventory of departing leftovers, repeatedly reminding attendees that the missing lid is part of a 24-piece set purchased at Costco last November and cannot be replaced individually. She further noted that Saran wrap was a structurally unacceptable alternative for storing the remaining chili, as it does not allow for proper stacking in the refrigerator.
We are cooperating fully with the search parameters, but tensions are rising after a thorough sweep of the lower dishwasher rack yielded only a mismatched sour cream container.
Neighbors reported that a temporary command center has been established at the dining room table, where Corvis is currently reviewing doorbell camera footage to track the movements of anyone holding a foil-wrapped paper plate. Several attendees who attempted to slip out through the side gate were promptly intercepted by Corvis’s husband, who has been stationed by the recycling bins with a Maglite since 9:15 p.m. He has reportedly been instructed to physically inspect all oversized purses, diaper bags, and suspiciously heavy coat pockets before granting anyone clearance to access their vehicles.
The search grid was officially expanded to include the trunk of a 2018 Honda CR-V at midnight, shortly after Corvis remembered seeing an unidentified toddler playing near the drying rack. The lockdown is expected to remain in effect until the locking mechanisms on all four sides of the lid are accounted for and visually verified by the host.
