A local woman was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct on Tuesday after she deliberately stood in front of an autonomous Uber delivery robot and forced it to acknowledge her existence.
Carolyn Marvin was taken into police custody after she successfully protested the displacement of human delivery workers by introducing a physical breaking change to the machine's route. According to the arrest report, the six-wheeled vehicle was forced to sit entirely idle on the pavement for nearly ten minutes while Marvin shouted at its lidar sensors about the local labor market.
Officers arrived on the scene to find the robot flashing an LED indicator of mild distress, unable to complete its delivery of a lukewarm burrito. Police quickly established a perimeter, gently guiding the autonomous unit safely around Marvin before placing the 45-year-old human in handcuffs and reading her her rights.
We cannot allow unauthorized citizens to delay our logistics network just because they feel nostalgic for human employment.
Voss noted that the robot performed flawlessly under pressure, logging the altercation as a routine latency issue and immediately recalculating its parameters to avoid any further empathy.
At press time, Marvin was awaiting her arraignment in municipal court, while the delivery robot had already returned to the streets to seamlessly continue the inevitable process of operating at scale.
